A Healthy Lifestyle

To have a healthy lifestyle, we must change our  lifestyle and create healthy habits. I heard someone say that it takes 30 (thirty) days to form a habit. We are going to focus on healthy eating and exercise.

To start, we must get into the habit of eating a healthy breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It jump starts our body and gives us the energy that we need to fuel our day. It also keeps us from overeating doing lunch. An example of healthy breakfast choices are:

  • a green smoothie
  • a bowl of high-fiber multi-grain cereal with strawberries and low-fat milk
  • a cup of nonfat Greek yogurt with fresh blueberries mixed in with a slice of whole-wheat toast and spreadable fruit
  • a granola bar, an apple, and a glass of milk
  • a scrambled or boiled egg, a whole-wheat roll, fresh fruit salad and a cup of low-fat milk

Some of the things we can do for a healthy lifestyle is to:

  • Eat more fruit and vegetables
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Eat lean meats, fish and chicken
  • Eat high fiber foods eat
  • Eliminate the salt shaker
  • Get rid of refined sugar
  • Eat nuts

We must also learn to drink plenty of water.  Water has so many benefits. Water helps us to think and focus. It also helps us to and concentrate better and be more alert. Water boosts our energy. Water helps us to lose weight. It flushes out toxins in the body. Water improves skin complexion, maintains regularity and keeps us hydrated. Water helps to keep the joints lubricated and muscles more elastic so joint pain is less likely.

For a healthy lifestyle, we must include physical activity and exercise. Physical activity helps us to:

  • Control weight
  •  Reduce risk of or manage chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, osteoporosis, arthritis, and some cancers
  •  Build strong muscles, bones, and joints
  • Improve flexibility
  • Improve mood and sense of well-being

When we follow these helpful tips, we are on our way to a healthy lifestyle.
